From the Chair
January 12, 2026
Dear Fellow Democrats,
As we move toward this year’s critical mid-term elections, I urge all of our members to participate in Okanogan County Democratic politics. We cannot restore and rebuild our country without your help.
John Duresky, Candidate for Congressional District 4 US Representative, has asked Okanogan Democrats for our endorsement. He has submitted the required questionnaire and welcomes the opportunity to answer your questions at our January 19th General Membership Meeting.
John will be excused following his presentation so that we can take a vote with regard to his endorsement request.
Endorsements matter because they indicate that a candidate's values are supported and approved by a trusted organization, such as local Democratic Committees. Endorsements can ease voter and potential contributor’s doubts by providing reassurance that a candidate is credible and suitable.
Endorsements are particularly valuable in rural areas by reaching demographics and communities that might have otherwise been difficult to access. They boost a campaign by motivating voters, attracting volunteers, creating enthusiasm and encouraging donors. This is particularly important for candidates who are new to politics and lack name recognition.
Our endorsement process, as outlined in our Bylaws:
Candidates seeking our endorsement submit a questionnaire and then answer questions from members at a general meeting
The membership in attendance at the general meeting vote by simple majority to endorse or not
Please note:
There is nothing in our bylaws to prohibit endorsing more than one Democratic candidate for the same office.
In partisan elections, we can only endorse Democratic nominees. In non-partisan elections, there are no such restrictions.
Please join us on January 19th for one of many steps toward Democratic representation in the 4th Congressional District.
In solidarity,
Nancy Aadland, Chair
