Okanogan Democrats April Newsletter
From the Chair
Dear Fellow Democrats,
The upcoming mid-term primaries are probably one of the most critical elections in our lifetimes.
We can’t wait until late summer or fall to get involved! The first milestone is less than one month away.
Let’s talk about what Okanogan County Democrats can do.
We are seeking solid candidates who will uphold the democratic values and support the US Constitution.
The filing period for elected office runs from May 4 through May 8.
There are “big” races — US House Representative for the 4th District (this is the race with Democrat John Duresky), State Senator, and both State Representative positions.
In addition, nearly every Okanogan County Office is up for grabs: Assessor, Auditor, Clerk, Coroner, Treasurer, Prosecuting Attorney, Sheriff and Commissioner of District 3.
There are also four open Supreme Court positions, another four in lessor courts, a PUD position and nearly 100 Precinct Committee Officers.
You’ll find the full list here.
We learn about, endorse, and then support candidates.
During election years, we invite candidates to speak at our monthly meetings. Members can participate by regular attendance and by posing insightful, relevant questions. Candidates seeking our endorsement will also complete a questionnaire. As individuals, we can volunteer for candidate phone-banking and canvassing. Those of us with the means to do so can also provide financial support to candidates we support. Our timeline for these activities are May through August 4th.
We register new voters and encourage voters to cast their ballots.
Okanogan County Democrats is planning a training session for volunteers who would like to help people register to vote, and we will be sponsoring voter registration drives throughout the county.
Prior to the primary elections, we will hold phone-banking and canvassing events.
Prior to the general election, we will mail our endorsements and recommendations postcard.
Together we work to turn Okanogan County blue.
